On November 16th 2019, the TESOL workshop “Solutions for Teaching Teens and YLs” which is co-hosted by Ho Chi Minh City TESOL Association, ELC Center and Horizon TESOL took place successfully at Block A Hutech University, 475A Dien Bien Phu, W. 25, Binh Thanh District .Horizon TESOL was pleased to host this workshop with a great number of participants who are enthusiastic English educators, teachers and students from prestigious universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
This special event also featured the co-organizers as the representatives, who were, Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc – President of HCMC TESOL Association, Mr. Andrew Hall – the Director of ELC and some teachers from many top-tier institutions.
Regarding the TESOL Workshop, it provided a participant-driven LEARN & SHARE experience for all attendants. This workshop did not only feature presenter-focused sessions but also facilitator-led discussion sessions on participant-made themes. Joining the lesson, the participants were enthusiastic in exchanging their practical experience and showing their opposite opinions about the topics related to teaching Teens and young learners. Especially, there were four basic but very controversial topics with the participation of the famous facilitators that the attendants could choose to take part in, which are listed below:
1. “Using Music and Songs for engaging Listening activities” shared by Mr. Adam Briffet and Mr. Stewart Gatsi currently working as an English Instructor from ELC center.
2. “Plan lessons carefully, Teach Students Successfully” shared by Ms. Le Thanh Ngan from Ho Chi Minh City TESOL Association, Founder and CEO My Uc English Center.
3. “Using the right activities for the right learners” shared by Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong from Ho Chi Minh City TESOL Association, Founder and CEO SpeakOnly.
4.“Keys aspect of Teaching Young Learners” Mr. Huy Pham from Horizon TESOL, Academic Manager.
The TESOL Workshop happened successfully and received tremendous support from the educators and teachers. Additionally, the facilitators and participants had the opportunity to discuss the theories and methods of teaching English as well as share the valuable first-hand experience and some particular situation in the classroom in reality. This event also offered a chance for everyone to meet and express their own perspective about challenges in teaching English. Horizon TESOL gave many souvenir gifts to the participants who made the greatest contribution.
As a co-organizator, It was a great honour to host the event. We hope that we will bring more useful workshops next time and the cooperation between Horizon TESOL, ELC center and HCMC TESOL Association will be more sustainable. We also want to send our wishes to the English teachers and university students – future teachers that they would continue to gain more success on their teaching careers.
